Mr. Carter, as you may remember, came to the Presidency on the heels of President Nixon’s resignation. That resignation was fueled as well by the negative fires of Arguably the smartest President since Woodrow Wilson, President Carter proved that I.Q. and common sense do not necessarily go together, and neither does initial presidential popularity and a two-term presidency. Indeed, the very name “Jimmy Carter,” well-intentioned as he may be, sends chills up and down the spines of seasoned campaign advisors who gets paid to help Presidents get elected more than once. President Obama, it isn’t the chains of the “Ghost of Christmas Past” that you hear; it’s Jimmy’s ghost. All of this, of course, is no joke. The human suffering around all of this is very, very real. But in this case, I do believe in ghosts, and so should our current President. Principle: Promises and Economic Failure Do Not Go Together Is history repeating itself? The similarities between the Presidency’s of Obama and Carter are growing. As the election day wave of hope dissipates, are we seeing the ghost of President’s past?
President Obama may not have an invitation to speak at the Young Republican’s Group, but he does have a ghost nipping at his heels. That ghost stalking him is none other than fellow Democrat and past President of the

Carter and Obama I lived under and was unemployed under the Carter administration. I was unemployed for 9 months. That time saw double digit inflation, double digit unemployment and double digit interest rates. A very tough time. Also banks had over inflated value of farmland and granted loans to farmers based on $5,000 per acre. My Uncle, a very successful farmer, did not believe the banks. He said it would take 20 years to yield a profit on a given acre of land to pay back that $5,000. He did not fall for it. However several did believe the banks to be smarter than them when it came to finances and bought it. This caused the "Farm Crisis". Deja vue all over again! If we continue down this "stimulus" path, we will see the same result. Side note. In those days you could take a tax deduction on your interest on your credit cards. Today you can not. With an average American having an over $10,000 in credit card debt, this is in not in any way a healthy situation. Business is tough, even tougher than I experienced during the Carter regime. The downturn is more wide spread. I am praying Goshen provision! |

Financila Advisor Though there are some simularities between Presidents Carter and Obama, there are also major differences. Mr. Carter did not face the Global economy that President Obama now faces. Also Carter did not inherit the Stimulus from the prceeding administration that President Obama has. The economy is also very different. Our interest rates are low and inflation in low. We do face tough times and our global economic policy is what may be more dangerous than our domestic policy. China could be the real threat if they allow the West to draw them into open markets too soon. History does seem to repeat itself but comparisons don't solve problem. |

Same old problems "Mr. Bush, like Richard Nixon, never really “connected” as a communicator with large segments of the American or global public. Both President Obama and President Carter got strong initial popularity ratings." They received these popularity ratings by "aspiring to make government competent and compassionate, responsive to the American people and their expectations."1 By doing this Obama and Carter gave the people what they want but not necessarily what they need. Their speeches promised delightful things. But now that Obama is in the heat of his presidency " those ratings began to drop over economic downturns." Because of this, President Obama's huge economic plans have steadily slowed and will eventually come to a halt. I'd have to ask like Mr. Joel Petersen, What would solve the (same old) problems? Is America going to have to wait 3 years or even 7 years before real and lasting change occurs? 1http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/jimmycarter/ |

And it Repeats... Time and time again, history has repeated itself. Maybe it will again... Are we seeing the ghost of President’s past? It is possible. I have heard others make conenctions about the similarities between President Obama and Jimmy Carter (http://www.nelsonguirado.com/i...my-carter, http://thestimulist.com/obamalaise/) People seem to think that the fix to this similarity is that Obama will simply "need to remain level-headed and keep his hubristic tendencies in check", but what I really think needs to happen is: Obama needs an encounter with God. That is how he will change things in this nation for the better. So will this history of Carter repeat? Maybe, adn aybe not. I believe the answer to solving the "same old problems" is prayer for Obama and this nation, because in the end, God is the only one who will bring "Change" anyways, right? It is as simple as that. |

It's a cycle This is such a great example of how history does repeat itself. The similarities between these two presidents are growing more and more. Dennis Peacocke stated that Obama’s popularity is slowly declining and the ratings are showing it just like former president Jimmy Carter. President Barrack Obama seemed to have been voted into office because of his promises. He promised healthcare, jobs, tax cutting, and many other things. People hear that and they want to see it happen. This seemed to have been the reason for President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Many people were thrown off guard by being voted to win this great honor. CNN posted an article stating that “Nobel Peace Prize is ‘call to action’”. (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/...index.html) But since being voted into office people are disappointed with his work in office and his failure to fulfill promises quickly. His ratings since being elected had plummeted. (http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2...5344.shtml - it gives an outlined approval rating going down since February) I think as a result the republicans are taking this as a wake up call to fill the gap of those no longer in favor of Obama. In the recent elections, this showed when two republicans were placed in office in New Jersey and Virginia. Now is the time for that action to continue to take place even on a local level of getting good leaders in office. |
