Strategic Vision: What Governments Can Do

E-mail Print PDF

Civil government, in the democratic context, reflects the values of the majority who elected the leaders of their governments. Whether or not the current electorate wants what it is getting is yet to be determined. What we do know, is that historically both the “left” and the “right” share full responsibility for the overall flaws within the system contributing to our systemic breakdown of social-economic health. The current “bleeding,” while obviously accelerated, is the result of both historically faulty systems and numerous “cuts and slices” on multiple levels by multiple people.

Having stated the obvious, here are our immediate “fifty-thousand foot” major issues to be addressed now. Here is what the prevailing government should do:

1. Envision our citizens with their responsibilities to our nation and social fabric and then

     talk about their rights.

2. Publicly acknowledge that unsecured governmental debt is theft from our children and

future generations. Politicians who don’t care about this must be removed from office.

3. Recognize that capital creation, and the policies that stimulate it, create jobs.

Government jobs not already paid for in balanced budgets only create public debt since

civil government is, by current definition and experience, a non-profit organization.

4. Freeze all government bailouts and schedule quick and orderly pay-backs from all past

recipients. Disinvest all government ownership of marketplace enterprises A.S.A.P.

5. Connect all unemployment recipients, wherever possible, to part-time employment

with businesses who receive tax-incentives for employing them at minimum wage plus.

6. Do everything possible to connect social welfare benefits to re-connecting and

strengthening the family units. The welfare system for the last forty-plus years has

acted as the primary enemy of the family units in the nation. It has promoted racism,

    classism, and benign bureaucratic dictatorships.

7. Rally the cities, counties, and states to come up with specific money-savings plans to

bring governmental efficiencies that de-centralize national spending and empower

    local government.

8. Incentivize the financial community so that if they do not regulate themselves with

responsible accounting, security, leverage rates, and a general set of ethical guidelines

commensurate with their social responsibility to the rest of us, they will be regulated

vigorously by civil government until they do.

9. Honestly deal with the social-security crisis, medical-debt crisis, and Federal debt

crisis with mandated balanced budgets and principle-based debt reduction on a yearly

    basis.

10. Recognize that until the United States of America creates a long-term strategic plan

for freedom, security, prosperity and human development, fully discussed and voted on

by the people, we will continue to live at the cruel mercy of short-term partisan politics

and politicians who are unworthy of leadership.

This is a short list of the “musts.” It passes over foreign policy since it is not clear that we have any consistent one. This is TheTransforum; let’s engage.

George Bush
George Bush, Jr. (ie Shrub) was unworthy. He was a sinner, committed mortal sins against our great nation, and has returned to the bottle of firewater, the source of much of his sinning. We Christians, for electing a fool and sinner President, are now feeling God's wrath. God bless America once more, please. Do we need to throw more of that fool's enablers out of office for God to shine on us again? Discuss.

Can you Provide Examples
Mr. Clinton, I would like to ask what you mean by fire water? I have not heard that expression before. Also I was wondering what mortal sin our former President Bush committed? He was far from perfect I agree, but ever President we elect is a sinner and in need of God's forgiveness. This includes President Obama, President Bush, and every President in America's history. So i would like to know what you mean by "electing a fool and a sinner" or committing a "mortal sin"? Please discuss.

In response to Mr. Clinton
In response to your comment above, I have quite a few questions regarding your blanketing and vague statements. First of all, you accused President Bush of being a sinner. Isn't everyone a sinner? Paul stated in Romans 3:23 that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. However, God is one who extends mercy and forgives as well. The point I am trying to make is that no one is perfect, no matter if he has the responsibility of overseeing the country or overseeing a family. What are these "mortal sins" you are speaking of? How was he a fool of a President? I would love to know the specific instances you are thinking of.
One minor point I would like to make is that the discussions of this nation are not made solely by the President. The branches of government were set up to ensure this, so if you are placing these "sins" solely on him, I think you are mistaken.
As for the point you make about we as Christians electing this man, the voting process does not allow this statement to be sound. Christians did not pick him to run for President; we did not pick him to be our representative. He chose to run for the office and he got voted in. The country thought he could oversee things better than his opponents (John Kerry or Al Gore).
Lastly, what wrath of God are you referring to that is direct relation to his Presidency?
I would love to continue this discussion and hear your answers to these questions. Thank you.
