How Do We Balance the Need for Global Cooperation and National Sovereignty?

Nations, Borders, and Immigration

Nations, Borders, and Immigration

“And He made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their habitation” - Acts 17:26

God is the Author of nations. He is also the determiner of history and the judge of how long any people group will control any part of the globe called earth that He has created. He establishes one people and removes another. Sometimes the “Why?” of it appears clear, at other times it appears to be a complete mystery.

When cultural sin levels become intolerant to Him, the city, or even whole civilization, can seemingly collapse almost overnight. Sodom and Gomorrah are but one example among multiple other ones. Sometimes He uses climatic or geographical natural disasters, and sometimes He uses warring invasions. Almost without exception, the city or culture in question is already dying of internal division, corruption and moral rot.

It’s Not the Economy – It’s Their Religion!

It’s Not the Economy – It’s Their Religion!

Unless we understand that “culture” is in reality “religion externalized,” we are unable to properly assess the problems facing the world community. Israel’s Defense Policy Against Iran: The Philosophy of Bob Dylan

Old rock-and-roll lyrics show up years later in the strangest places. Musician-poets seem to have some kind of strange visceral connection with both culture and the world of power and politics. For example, I have always believed that often it is true that “the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls.” Simon and Garfunkel apparently knew more than they really new. It’s too bad Shakes...

Where is the Judge? - Part III

Where is the Judge? - Part III

Relationships exist on multiple levels and offer many benefits.  The relationship between the government and its citizens should be conducted by similar contractual rules that preside over other relationships.  Both parties’ boundaries and authority must be honored and respected; rules of interaction must be established and obeyed; mutual obligations and rewards must be defined and observed.

Long-Term Strategies in a Short-Term World

Long-Term Strategies in a Short-Term World

I once read an article critiquing Mr. Bush's apparent thinking regarding the war in Iraq.  The article insightfully dissected a variety of issues surrounding the topic and concluded that in order to achieve the goals that were on the table regarding the democratization of the Middle East, it would possibly take sixty years.  Clearly no American president would ask any current electorate to embrace...
